Then the lawyers claim that he didn't distribute his child sexual abuse images that he only used them for his own gratification again try's to denounce the damage that was done to this young child. Even though he supposedly made them for himself when the investigative team had to look through the images I am sure they were sickened and that the girl was re-victimized because others viewed the images. A PAEDOPHILE who repeatedly raped a girl when she was just four-years-old has been jailed for 20 years.
Steven Filan (36), of Rangefield, Orton Brimbles, subjected the girl to the terrifying ordeal over a number of years.
Filan also produced sexual images of her.
Filan continued to deny raping and sexually assaulting the girl, despite being convicted by a jury after a trial at Peterborough Crown Court earlier this year.
But yesterday he was sentenced to a total of 20 years behind bars at the court by Judge Nic Madge.
Reading from a pre-sentence report compiled by the Probation Service ahead of the hearing, Judge Madge said Filan was “a controlling individual who manipulated his victim”.
The report also stated that Filan demonstrated a “high level of risk to other children”.
Jacqueline Matthews-Stroud, prosecuting, told the court: “The rapes took place over a significant period of time , starting when she was aged four.”
Mrs Matthews-Stroud said some of the offences took place in Peterborough.
Filan had pleaded guilty to 13 counts of taking indecent images, but denied six counts of rape, four of indecent assault and three of assault of a child by penetration.
He shook his head in the dock as descriptions of his offences were read to the court, but showed little emotion as he was sentenced before being led away to begin his jail term.
He was sentenced to 19 years for each rape and assault by penetration and five years for each indecent assault, to be served concurrently.
He was given a one year sentence for each offence of taking indecent photos of a child, to be served concurrently of each other but consecutive of the other offences.
The 233 days he has spent in custody on remand will count towards his sentence.
He was also banned from working with children and given a sexual offences prevention order, which will run indefinitely.
Hugh Vass, defending, said Filan deserved credit for his guilty pleas and lack of previous convictions.
He said: “The defendant is 36-years-old and of previous good character.
“There is no evidence he has abused any other child.
“He pleaded guilty to taking indecent photos of a child, there is no suggestion they were for distribution, but were for his own gratification.
“He has expressed shame and remorse for these actions.”
Judge Madge, sentencing, said: “Your prolonged sexual abuse of your victim is not something that she could continue hiding.
“There is no doubt that she had to tell someone – a friend – and that friend was bound to tell a teacher.
“There is no doubt that, having regard to your culpability and the harm caused, that I have to impose a very substantial custodial sentence.”

how long will he serve the 20 years i hope got off to lightly, maybe he will get his reward in prison over next years

Deleteis this british justice, i say no 20 years for damaging a childs life. had the displeasure of listening to the wife in court, seems she is standing by him how sick is that. her daughter his victim she is living with foster parents. wheres this childs relatives?this wrong against this child can never be rectified, how can this so called mother live with herself. disregarding her child for him. beggars belief.

Dysfunctional families are unbelievable. I hope this young girl is getting the help she needs. Can you imagine feeling abandoned by your mother like this? How sad, how despicable!
One of the things that happens in some situations is that the mother survived sexual abuse as well and turns a blind eye. Even so there is no excuse for not protecting and abandoning your child. thanks rosie for your reply,the child is safe she is not with relatives, good people taking care to her. the mother said in court she was abused by her father, when she was giving evidence. as the judge said filan is a controler. dont know if she is getting counciling,just hope she goes on to live life to the full. surely the fact that he took videos of the child while she was dressing,bathing etc tells this wortless mother that the child isnt lieing. she could not make that up becuase it was on the computer, the police found it. filan said in evidence the child wanted him, this makes me so sick that the stupid woman stays with him,

It gets me so sick when pedophiles claim the child seduced them. YUCK! That is how distorted their views are. And how much in denial they are of their behavior. I agree it is sickening that she chooses to stay with him.I hope at some point in her life she realizes what she is doing. Of course by then it may be to late. Just found this site, you doing a good job.Iam disgusted to read about the childs mother, how can she stand by a child molester, video recordings as well, whats the mother saying the child encouraged him to do it. whose the adult here certainly not the molestor or the mother. What a brave child to tell on him, makes the child more adult than both the molestor and mother. The paedo is probably controling the mother from his jail cell.Lets hope and pray this child never has anything to do with her mother again, becuase all to sadly the victim will end up being drawn into abuse again. Let hope the victim will be the one to end the cycle of abuse. I hope he gets all he deserves in jail, as for the mother let her rot. I agree with you that the child was brave to come forward and that she is more adult they the two adults that were raising her. I am glad she is safe and with people who care about her. I am saddened that the mother got away with not being held accountable for her role in this situation. She must have known. If the child was brave enough to tell authorities then she told her mother. You would never believe that they could do that a child that has been raped and abused over so many years. How on earth can the so called mum stand by him? Does this stupid stupid ignorant woman realise what he has done to this girl. As ive read in previous posts he took videos/pics of the girl,is her i.q very low that she cant comprehend that he alone or with the stupid womans help invaded that girl in the most intimate way by videoing her. The police officers produced the evidence and yet she is in denial.Does she have other children? I hope she hasnt. If she has are they in care now? I might be quite wrong but it seems to me she is involved in this. These dirty scum bags need to be publicly shamed as they are getting off to lightly, He will probably go to a nice pedofile unit get counceling and be sent home in eight years and told to behave himself.But as soon as he infiltrates himself into a family unit he will be at it again. She was apparently sexually abused by her father so you would think she would know what this was like for her daughter. I agree video evidence is pretty damning and why this mother wouldn't believe this is atrocious. Apparently the pedophile said the child came on to him. Maybe the mother chose to see that if she viewed the tapes. I am guessing they were probably played at his trial. I'm not sure if she has other children. I'm with you I hope not and if so I hope that she looses custody of them. Just the fact that she has a history of sticking by a pedophile. She apparently displays a lack of judgement when it comes to protecting her child. They do get off lightly and to read some of the things the pedo's say on their chat forums. They think the shouldn't even being arrested and serve time. They see nothing wrong with their behavior. One of the reasons they are so hard to treat is that they refuse to take responsibility for harming a child. Until they are able to understand that children can't consent and that there are real ramifications for the child nothing will change. And then of course their are those who believe that this is a "sexual orientation" not a mental illness. There isn't enough empirical evidence that supports whether they are born that way or made. I think they are made. I believe that child sexual abuse is so rampant that some CSA survivors convince themselves that they were the seducers when they were children so they believe that they don't seduce children that the children seduce them. This takes the blame off of themselves. It also keeps them in denial around their being sexually abused. It seems female pedophiles are more apt to talk about their abuse. I am proud to say that there are several male survivors of sexual abuse who are coming forward with their stories. They are helping change the suffering for others who are abused. It is time for people to understand the recidivism rate and to put other systems in place to protect children. Obviously the systems we have now aren't working. Stop by anytime. Rosie
hi rosie to answer dees question, i was in court for the trial of this scum bag, no the the wife did not see the video evidence, not even the jury saw it, only the police,prosecuter defence barristers. the judge saw a few moments of one,as the judge told filan at sentencing that was enougth.they all had written police accounts of all what was on each video as there were 12 or 13 of them. the judge was very keen i feel not to give the child any embaresment. the child gave her evidence via video link at trial. at sentencing she came into court with her foster carers. the mother was called to witness box so she had to come to that, she appeared for about half an hour another time, she never came back into court for the trial or the sentencing, that in itself shows her guilt. if she had any feelings for her child and to hear all the evidence she would have been there all the time.what a brave girl she was to come into court to see him her abuser jailed for 20 years. lets hope that gave her comfort. let her life improve and go on to enjoy it. i hope he has to serve the whole 20 years she will be a grown woman when he gets out. knowing he cant hurt her again. oh by the way she has other children and as far as i know 2 are filans and the other 3 are by a previous relationship.PLEASE GOD NEVER LET THIS SO CALLED MOTHER HAVE A GOOD NIGHTS SLEEP AGAIN.

Even if she ends her marriage her track record of choosing someone who will abuse her children puts those children at increased risk. I really appreciate your telling me and my readers the information. The fact that she didn't come to support her daughter does show her guilt. I am glad the Judge was being supportive to the child and not wanting to increase her embarrassment. She should be proud of herself for what she was able to do. hi rosie, yes she defiently got the children in her care. i think you are quite right some of her track record with men came out in the evidence. she was seeing filan behind her partners back to start with, then they were having threesomes so on and so on. i think she will hook up with another odd ball, they seem to atract. then it starts again she will turn a blind eye to keep him. some women cant be without a man at any cost. another child damaged. whats up with social services, why arnt they doing something to protect children, goverment cutbacks yet again. politicians could not give a hoot anything to save money, that will end up in their pockets for pay rises.sick sad world these pedos got a lot to answer for. take care rosie. keep up the good work. x
