Brasil: Diga não ao tráfico de pessoas/ Stop Human Trafficking

Please take a minute to go to change.org and sign the petition http://www.change.org/petitions/brasil-diga-no-ao-trfico-de-pessoas-stop-human-trafficking. I was asked to discuss this on the blog and am gladly doing so.  Apparently there isn't enough financial resources to help combat human trafficking in Brazil's budget. With the 2016 Olympics coming up the need to supply "humans" to the sex trade, and workers (slavery) is going to go up tremendously. I am glad to shed some light on this topic. At the end of the post I have added links that discuss this problem in Brazil. I want to encourage anyone who would like me to post something that sheds light onto the topic of childhood abuse, or human trafficking to just let me know and I will gladly do so. Rosie

Representing the interests of the civil society, Liberta hereby declares that Brazil is the country in the Western hemisphere most affected by the illegal activity of human trafficking, having the largest number of victims who are subjected to sexual exploitation, work practices similar to slavery and the removal of organs. We emphasize that the traffic of human beings will substantially increase in the cities participating in the 2014 World Cup and the Olympics in 2016, causing the nationwide transport of victims to meet the massive demand from sex tourism.

The country lacks the resources needed to support the implementation of programs and projects to prevent the traffic of persons; to inspect properties that have kept workers in slave-like conditions; to support referral centers of assistance to victims, and to develop social and educational campaigns to prevent human trafficking, capacitate and train events aimed at the tourism supply chain.
For 2012, the Federal Government's proposal included in the 0028/2011 PLN -LOA, the Annual Budget Law, to combat trafficking of human beings is 1 million reais. We, the undersigned, demand the expansion to 20 million reais in funding for the National Policy to Combat Human Trafficking in Brazil.
