We need to protect children from sexual abuse, period. It shouldn't matter whether the child is a boy or a girl, what matters is that a child was sexually abused. Those people who make a joke of stories like this do a grave injustice to the boys who are sexually abused. Their behavior helps to perpetuate this "double standard." It probably, also makes it harder for boys who are sexually abused to tell. Can you imagine this boy telling friends this happened? Most would be psyched that he was getting to have sex. I suspect some fathers, grandfathers, brothers, etc. would respond the same way as those who left comments. The concern that he was violated wouldn't be taken in to account. How confusing that would be.
I am following a couple of blogs of men who are telling their stories of surviving sexual abuse. I think those who posted the comments should read some of these blogs. I have put up links to a couple. The first one is, Men in My Town http://meninmytown.wordpress.com/ The second one is Toy Soldiers http://toysoldier.wordpress.com/. The last one is Memories of a Man-boy relationship http://barebear1.blogspot.com/. These are brave men who choose to share their stories to help others to understand the impact of sexual abuse on them. Please take the time to check these blogs out. I want to thank these men for sharing their stories and helping erase/lessen the stigma males suffer. THANK YOU, Rosie
